It avails me a great honor to say a word in this esteemed meeting today. In this meeting, we are conferring honorary battle flags on the youth, workers, and students. These battle flags symbolize our motherland, our independence, and our own dignity which must be defended at all costs.

They are the signs carried when going to the battles to be fought against the enemy of our people, against those who envy us, and against imperialism. It seems to be highly essential to have an ensign by which we can recognize one another when we are on the battle fields in defense of a just cause. We have to defend our unity and remove everything that imperils it.

We are aware of the long periods in which we have been divided on tribal grounds or on other grounds meant to divide us. But once and for all, we have to remove and eradicate all forms of evil which vainly impede and stand in the way of our progress.

There are many good people among the Somalis who are being confused by the wicked elements who implant their minds, beliefs of personal interest, tribalism, and that sort of thing which are all in the interests of imperialism. These people are wishfully thinking of the return of the old system.

We are not worried about the prevalence of such unhealthy ideas for we are on the right path and are doing the right things. What we are doing is entirely consistent with our faith, our religion, and our aim to make our future bright. These people are like the saying goes <An old woman is crying and an old man is alarmed>, but all these are none of my concern. So let them scream. Let them speak bogus and slander. We shall never lend them an ear, but we will firmly march forward and we will never stop or wait or hesitate.

It seems as if we have just obtained our independence and hoisted our flags. It looks as if we have just removed hatred from among us. Moreover, we now realize that we have to count on and rely upon ourselves only. We have to leave behind in the dust all the ill-disposed things. We have to throw away the wicked imperialist lackeys together with their imperialists.

We have to lead the younger generation of the Somali people to a bright future and to an era of prosperity for all. This target to which they aspire stems right from their shared belief and unity. Since we have never been afraid of the imperialist's slanders and the rumors of their lackeys, of the complete misrepresentations of facts that their papers always report about us, of their intimidations and of their predictions that we will never be able to forge ahead as a result of the economic setbacks to be inflicted on us.

We will go ahead and make gigantic efforts for the progress of our country and people.

Long live Somalia!

Victory is for Somalia!

Let Somalia proceed ahead!

Let Somalia remain independent forever and we are sure that it will remain so!

Down with injustice, envy, division, tribalism, sectarianism, and imperialism old and new!

Never accept humiliation or degradation!

Death for all those devils and down with them!

I salute the workers, the youth, and all categories of the Somali people.

I call upon you to hold this flag high!

Never let it touch the ground!

Defend it against the enemy, and if he comes near it, knock him out.
